A little WD-40 and some patience can work wonders as well. This job is pretty straight forward.

so just curious. I did not take off the sway bar links. on each one there is a plastic cap with a nut on the back side. do you pry off the plastic cap?

No, do not damage the cap in any way. You will need a torx bit inserted into the end where the nut is, and a open ended or a box wrench to fit over the nut - the torx keeps the bolt from moving while you turn the box wrench to loosen the endlink. A little (or a lot) of WD-40 or Liquid Wrench helps immensely here too, if the end link has never been removed.

try to compress strut and let it go slow, do a couple times, it's a pain. If I remember (I did it on lift), it (strut)needs almost perfect straight, otherwise jack under rotor, maybe push it on side.

Well I did not try that. I was amazed at how much the assembly moved with the control arm disconnected.

I Just went thru this last week.
I paid $150 to a mechanic to replace the bushings on the control arm (I bought the bushings from an on-line retailer). It took 2 full hours for the mechanic to do both sides. I watched him work the entire 2 hours. As others suggested, jack under the knuckle/rotor definitely helps.

I have done brake jobs, strut replacements and every fluid replacement or flush out there. This one just took the cake. On another note when i was under there i noticed on the Dynamic drive that the yellow tube? coming out of the drivers side of the pump is loose and loosing fluid. Must not be much as my resevoir is full. Next project! Anyone know where this goes after it joins with the black tube? looks like it goes up into the frame. I need to snap a picture!

There should not be any fluid coming out of those two tubes. They are vent tubes. They join up and go into the subframe top-off with a plug. The fluids are carried by the two very mean and sturdy looking high-pressure hoses with metal fittings at both ends.
