Just got told by the dealer than my tires are worn out. Stock OEM Continental 225 55 R16 95V Checked them and the rear are near the wear bars, Front are getting there quickly. 20.5K miles.

I'm driving a 525, never push the tires that hard.

More wear in the center, less on the edge. This is typically overinflation, but my inflation is to spec.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any luck with Conti's warranty policy?

Thanks

I don't know the tires, but 20K is not unusual on either high-performance tires or runflats.

20k seems ok to me! Is it a 525i or 525d?

LOL...do feel lucky!!!! I already begin to show a little wear at 4000km. And i noticed more wear on the sides and less on the centre. I wonder where did it came from?

My 05 525i have the Conti's 225/55/17's that also show some wear. Right now mileage is around 13K. I keep my car tires to specs at 36 front/44 rear. Ride is a little harder but handling is great. I think next set of tires will be Bridgestones.

I used to use Conti Sport Contacts on my E39 & got an average of 27 000 km's from the rear with medium style driving. Did not make me happy

At the risk of sounding paranoid, I find it interesting that my E60 tires noticeably wear out (@20K miles) well prior to my 36 month lease-end, while my E39 (also V-rated Conti touring) tires had life left on them in 36 months. Makes me think that BMW has arranged to force tire replacement before lease end, to save a considerable amount of money across the marque. Just paranoia, of course, but I'm surprised that the tires have crapped out so soon.

My last cars front tyres wore out on the inside edge after 19.5k. Fortunately I part exchanged it so didn't have to complain, I let them sort out there own Fu*kup.

My OEM Continentals wore out in 20,000 miles also and I drive very conservatively. I went in for my annual State Safety Inspection and was told that my tires were too worn to pass inspection. I knew they were getting very noisy but didn't realize they were worn out. I was very disappointed with them. Replaced them with Yokohamas and have been very pleased with them. The Yokohamas were also very highly rated in the latest issues of Car and Driver. It contains a very good article on current tires.

20k is normal lifespan for the Conti's.

Don't bother with a warranty claim - they'll laugh at you.
