consumption question

i get 20l/100km
(that is 11mpg us or 14mpg uk)

is that ok for city driving in a 520i?

That is pretty bad... but not unheard of as that engine has to be worked hard to push the car.
It seems a bit worse than usual though...
What kind of driving do you do? Mostly city, short runs?
Do you drive with a heavy foot?

You summed it up
City driving +Short Runs +cold starts +heavy foot +heavy car/smallish engine combo = very high consumption

I get 18 mpg from 11 miles runs in winter time (19 mpg summer) from my 530i (90% city traffic) without trying.

oh, so the engine plays an important role huh?


and i was wondering why the the 316 had the same consumption as the 320 :S
guess the small engine is why

According to BMW UK figures

523i & 530i have the exact Fuel consumption figures for an Auto box.
combined figure is 30.4 UK MPG

So it really depends on your driving style (heavy foot, short runs & cold starts are the main factors).
