On our 520i the engine is constantly varying its speed - on idle aswell as when driving. The variation is as stated constant, and the engine varies with about 40-100RPM at all times. When driving, the "current/actual consumption" needle varies in accordance with the irregular variation in RPMs.

According to the dealer this is normal - however - on a 520i loaner we had, the engine wasn't varying the same way ours is. Clearly something must be faulty.

Does anyone have a clue as to what might be causing this? May there be a problem with the butterfly valve? Have anyone else experienced this with the M54?

it is either some kind of valve (cold start valve?)or sensor, happens to another car of mine years ago. should take it in.

Do u know what manufacture yr/month your car is? Could need a software upgrade, I believe the current update is 11.2(or 11.1). This may help?

My 530d needle fluctuates on tickover. Jumps approx 100rpm but engine doesn't change. Been told this is "normal"

I can't find this option anywhere in the brochure. Can we get it in Europe?
