Over all, computers bring more benefits than annoyances.
That's why I gladly take any poor designed Windows computer and work with it, rather than doing everything manually (what will take three times as much time, or more).

Microsoft doesn't take days and days to get updated. You also don't have to replace parts of your computer to upgrade your software. As soon as BMW starts charging $$$ to do simple upgrades you'll hear a big cry from all the owners. Since the new BMW have a computer network in them, the problems will continue.
Why do you thing the 3rd party extended don't cover the electronics?
If the problems continue, I will be dumping my ride about a year before the warranty's up and buy something more reliable. We'll see.
Btw, I spent 25 years installing, maintaining and supporting computer software/networks. I sometimes feel like I'm at work when I'm in my car. Poor quality control on BMW's part. Maybe you guys will put up with it, but I won't. I've put up with Mr. Gates for too long. He's a con artist that should be in jail.

(Just with pro nav - nav in the US)
The car drives as any other old time car when the bugs hit.
I have tested my car deeply for already 15.000 USmiles in three months.
There is plenty of erratic software behaviour I?ve experienced (almost all stuff that?s been brought up on this list and then some).
But I?m still really happy with both the car and the computer?
Most annoying things is:
false tyre pressure alarm (happened five times - only on runflats/not on normal tyres) (will be fixed in next sw update)
electrical windows sensing obstruction when there is none (happened every third time - have been fixed in SW update)
muted sound (happened three times on 300 startups)
others have been minor/interesting(?)/rare
all have been far from areas which would hinder me from doing what my old non-computer car was able to do.
The most serious consequence as I see it with this new computer/car world is if you are not that adaptive/understanding and puts your car in for fixes all the time as the dealers are also not always that clever with this now paradigm.
best

What worries me is the "cry wolf" syndrome.
This week I had the "active steering failure" message, along with dire warning about the steering behaving erratically. I'd just had BT enabled and the oxygen sensor thing done. Fortunately, the error came on as I started the car, and I had to switch on/off about three times before the error went away.
Now what do I when the error comes on while driving on the freeway? Ignore it like I do when I get the gas cap warnings? Or maybe it's a real warning......

the software glitches to me - is an acceptable fact that comes with new technology...
what matters to me - is the quality of service provided by bmw and the dealership.? if your dealership has high quality service standards - overall, then, be assured that the software issues will be addressed and corrected in a very timely manner.? 4 years or 50k miles warranty is enough assurance from bmw that any problems will be taken cared off - for free!
good luck,
gonzo
