I had a similar debate, until I finally sat in a 5 w/ the Comfort seats. Just for the additional adjustabilty alone they are worth it, but now w/ nearly 6k miles on my 4 month old 545i, I cant imagine having anything less. Bottom line, if you want to have more comfort in your sport seat, get 'em, you wont be sorry!!
I LOVE THAT AUBURN INTERIOR! Damn, so rich looking.

My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!

I went with the Sports Seats over Comfort Seats.
I have not spent much time sitting in Comfort Seats, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Comfort Seats can hold you in place as well as Sports Seats but not better. The advantage of Comfort Seats is more areas of adjustment.
I'm coming from Porsche seats, which really pinch your sides and hold you down, so I wanted seats in the E60 that hold you in place the best. Stability in corners was my priority, and comfort was secondary to my concerns. (When you sit upright, in a proper driving position, in good sports seats, you should be comfortable automatically - even for long distances.)
Well I found that E60's Sports Seats fit the bill for my needs. They're as sporty as you can get in the E60, plus I found that they were already VERY comfortable. In fact, sometimes I think the Sports Seats are TOO comfortable and luxurious. Sometimes I think it'd be easy for me to fall asleep in them!
For me Sports Seats turned out to be plenty comfortable already, that Comfort Seats would just be overkill. Your priorities may be different though, so you'll just have to try them yourself.
If it were really up to me, I'd get Recaro Racing Seats in my E60, but that's just me...

FWIW had comfort seats on my 7er, now have sport seats in my 5er. definitely miss the comfort seats. in particular, how the top half of the seat can bend forward back so the headrests actually support your head. also, comfort seats held me in place with the adjustable side bolsters just as well as the sport seats.
