I bought a machined all brass gear set for my 2010 E60 with this broken thigh support gear issue. It's just a lousy design to use a vinyl gear like this in a high stress position.

The after market part is a well machined piece of solid brass and looks like it will surely outlast the original.
The part is only $36.90.
Heck of a lot cheaper than buying another whole unit from BMW which will just break again in the future!!!...
