Comfort access not so comfortable?

Tinting with metallic tinting materials (rather than ceramic tinting materials) has been very well known in high end models to interfere with comfort access.
I had my new 2010 550i tinted this weekend. The tinting place (which handles mostly Audis, Mercedes, Jags, and BMWs) warned me about the problems (the first question asked was whether my car had comfort access). The head service guy made sure that I used "ceramic" tint rather than metallic tint.
If you do not know what kind of tint you used, chances are that it was metallic tint.

I have the same issue with my CA. Been like this for a while though I have not changed the battery in the key fob yet. The only reason I have not changed is the car unlocks almost 100% of the time upon grabbing a handle. Touching to lock works less than 50% of the time, so I have simply quit trying and now press the button to lock. I assume if the battery were getting weak that I would be having problems with the button as well or the unlock would be equally sporatic. The car is stock, no tint blocking the signal... I'm due for a service in September so I'll mention it to my SA then.
(I saw a guy the other day in a brand new M6 convertible -- still had temporary tags on it -- struggle with locking the car via CA because he clearly wasn't shown the proper technique at the dealership and obviously didn't RTFM...)

At the risk of insulting you -- not my intention at all -- since you're a "veteran E60-er" I assume you're doing things properly but I have to ask anyway...are you touching the correct area of the door handle to lock it?

Rudy, I appreciate the benefit of the doubt!! Yes, I'm pressing the proper spot on the door handle to lock the doors... When I do try it, it usually have to press the spot three or four times. That's why I have pretty much given up on the locking side of things. Sometimes I wonder if the car simply has not detected that the key is now outside the car. As I said, unlocking works as advertised.

Do all doors behave the same way when you try to lock the car?

A bit confused by the question. I assume you mean when I lock with the button on the key fob, and yes they all (either the driver's door only or all four) lock at once as soon as I press the button. When I try the CA, doesn't matter if just the driver's door or if all four doors are unlocked, simply no response most of the time.

No, I mean when you touch the "lock area" of a door handle, do they all exhibit the same symptoms? In other words, does one (or more) handle work better than another?

...Could be the sensor on the driver's door is not working properly.

The locking feature of my ca system is crap.
I got tired of looking like an idiot poking at the door handles so I just use the fob. Unlocking when pulling the handles works like a champ.

See P.41 in user manual
It locks and unlocks perfectly fine for me.
