Hey, I have a quick follow-up question... For you guys who don't always lock your doors (Rudy & D), do you instead always press the start/stop button a second time to shut everything down? (I was just talking to my friend whose car is having the problem, and mentioned to me that the dealer said that you have to do one of these two things... either lock it, or press the button a second time.) It still doesn't seem possible, but I just wanted to double-check before my buddy goes toe-to-toe with these guys...

Thanks!

I usually just hold down the stop button (which is similar to pressing it twice.) Once in a while, if something is on the radio that I still want to hear, I'll press it quickly and let things time out on their own. Either way, my battery doesn't die.

I imagine if you always pressed the button once and let it time out each time, it may tax the battery a bit more than usual..

Thanks Rudy. Do you happen to know how long it takes for things to time out? (Also, during this time-out period, are all the outside lights (except the main headlights) supposed to stay on?)

I have C.A. and like the others have said, I leave the car unlocked in the garage and have had no battery issues. I think your S.A. is full of sh!#.........!

I too have had the battery die once on me for my 545i auto. same reason, dealer said it was because I left my car unlocked in my garage for a couple weeks while I went overseas. I complained enough that they replaced the battery for a more powerful one.

So far so good...no issues with battery anymore, though I've always locked my car since then, so haven't tested the unlocked car scenario.

Not sure how long it takes to time out but on my car, at night, if I press the stop button once, the exterior lights stay on only until my door is opened. From there, the only thing still illuminated is the CID screen and the instrument cluster...
