When washing the car, you're supposed to put the fob in the slot on the steering column. This will prevent the car from locking and unlocking with the water stream. (This information is actually in the manual...)
funny you say that.. one time.. and only once when i washed my car as i walked around it to rinse, etc. the damm doors kept locking and unlocking.. was the first time ever.and i had the key in my pocket. was wierd..

i usually leave the key on a ladder in my garage as i wash the car. maybe ill continue to do that instead of keeping it on me.. was sooo annoying.. lol

I thought the manual said this in order to keep the car in neutral when it's being guided through an automatic car wash?

Don't think so...I'm pretty sure the car will stay in neutral as long as the doors remain closed (and hopefully, in a car wash, the doors will do just that...)

I don`t know if US models have this too but my EU 535 with CA has an extra key in the glove compartment, even has a special holder , I asked my stealer why this is and they answered me this was if your CA fob you use frequently gets wet and doesn`t function anymore you can start the car with the little key in the CA fob you use frequently.
I guess it only works combined with the metal part of the frequent fob and the glove compartment fob... or so...

My sections to lock the doors on the passenger side door doesn't really work very well... unlock and lock other doors are fine...
Does anyone know if the lock sensor is exchangeable per side or is there on sensor in the car?

By the way what does FOB stand for?

I'll try to clarify a few things here...

First, US as well as EU car (as well as other countries) have the spare key adapter in the glove box. This adapter will only work with the spare plastic "wallet" key that came with the car, not the metal one that slides out of the CA fob. In other words, if your CA fob gets wet and you don't have the plastic wallet key with you, the spare holder in the glove box isn't going to help you one bit. If you want, you can go back to your stealer and set him straight...

As far as your CA reception issues on one side of the car, there are multiple antennas so maybe you're having an issue with the one that detects things on that side? There are a bunch of threads about stuff like this so you can learn more by poking around a bit. If you want to learn more about the workings of CA, take a look at this document posted in the technical gallery: https://5series.net/forums/index.php?autoco...i&img=10674

As far as your question about what "FOB" stands for, it stands for "Fob"...take a look here for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fob

I forgot one more thing...

Here's a couple pages from the owner's manual describing the use of the spare key and holder in the glove box...

When I'm washing my car, I just throw the fob on the dash or seat. As long as the fob is inside the car, water won't lock/unlock.

Actually, according to the manual, what that permits is you can turn the car off with the transmission in "Neutral" so it can be dragged through a carwash.

But it may also deactivate CA functions like touch lock / unlock. I'll have to explore that later today!
