I just purchased a 2006 M5 and without a warranty and never checked the key fob to see if it worked because the car was already open and it was being shown to someone else. Well to make the long story short. I realized when I got home that the transmitter wasn't working. So my first thought was well maybe the battery is dead so I replaced the battery from a local auto parts store and it still not working. The only way for me to unlock and lock the doors is to use the key. Also I have to insert the transmitter into the colum in order for me to start the car. Does anyone have any ideas before I take it into the dealership?

If you don't have DIS just go ahead and take it to the dealer. It could be the diversity antenna since the car won't open at all. The key has to be assigned to a comfort access slot in your CAS but you need to figure out the open/close issues first. I would check the diversity antenna, they are known to have high corrosion.

Was there any kind of warranty? Most places at least provides a 24 hr one... I was getting the same issue recently but mine was due to a weak battery. I was constantly in and out of the car and not driving it and the car on jack icon popped up. After charging the battery all was ok.
