My first winter with my 07 525 xi. On cold mornings compared to other cars, it seems to take the BMW quite awhile to warm up and put heat into the passenger compnrtment. It seems like the fans come on too early and blow a lot of cold air for about 20 minutes before you feel any warm air. Is there a way to reprogram the fans so they don't come on until there is hot air available?
Thanks

I do not have that problem. Make sure the upper vents are on the full warm setting (4 red bars).
Mine also doesn't blow air at high speed until warm. In the summer, it does blow hot air within seconds at startup and takes 1-2 minutes to start to cool down.

PS: If you have heated seats, use them to get warm buns in a minute.

I don't know about the 07s, but my 08 has a knob in the middle of the control panel. My right hand is programed to turn it clear counter-clockwise to slow the blower.

And that also works on the AC in the hot weather.

How do it know?

I do know that my seats in my 550i warm up to almost cause a 2nd degree burn in about 3 minutes!

The seat heaters and the steering wheel heater work great. In my old car (Volvo S80) the fans do not come on until there was really hot air to and I didn't have to adjust the fan speed. You would think "Auto" would mean you didn't have to manually adjust the fan.
I will play with the red lines a bit and see.
Thansk for the replys

That should be the way it works. However the upper vent temp control dramatically effects the "auto" behavior". The upper vent temp is a unique feature that's been in BMWs for ages. It does seem out of place with full auto A/C but can be very useful to vary the temp of what's blowing in your face.

This is my first time with a cold weather pkg'd vehicle in actual cold weather (formerly from the West coast) and i'm absolutely loving the heated seats and wheel!

Auto can be adjusted and in the LCI even more than on the pre-LCI one.
Go and play with the iDrive (or read the manual).
Even my ol' '04's and 05's had a iDrive adjustment for the vents.

But true is, that the fan gets on as soon as the temp is high enough to give some heat,
not hot. (Volvo's are famous for there great heating system and gas slurping engines).

We who have diesels have a electric heater help system, because the engine itself don't heat up as gasoline engines.
The V8 engines does give out heat a bit faster than the 6 cylinder engines.
