id stick to the maf cleaner sprays, their only like 5 bucks at any auto shop. brake cleaner is like only couple bucks less but ive heard some horror stories of the brake cleaner being too strong for cleaning the maf. the sensors in the maf are very tiny, i always just use the maf cleaner, better safe than sorry, and always had good luck with em.

What horror stories? The MAFS cleaner and break cleaner and electrical cleaner is usually the same formula. There are thin metal wires inside the MAFS and they're not going to be hurt by any of the above products so whatever horror stories you've heard is most likely just inexperienced ranting.

There are always those who won't read the MSDS and know...
I am having misfire code and now running to lean fault. the engine idle is very rough and fluctuates. Based on other post I was chasing the DISA as the problem. then I see this post and put two and two together I had the oil changed a few days prior to this problem. I see there is a comment about a crank case vent issue - How would you clear that condition. I will clean the MAF sensor to see if this fixes the problem. I pulled the DISA out for inspection, it seems sticky and had a good amount of build up. Is there a way to test the DISA before replacing it?

If you're running lean it could be several things start with maintenance first. when did you last check plugs? Clean air filter? Clean MAFS? is your oil cap on tight? etc etc. I bet you haven't serviced your air filter in a while...if using K&N make sure you oil only lightly and let it sit for a while to absorb...also clean your MAFS before running. YOu should be fine. What year is your car?
