Hi,
I have installed a new Bosch 110ah battery to replace my original 90ah BMW battery (non-AGM).

I completed the following the steps for coding the new battery to the car using INPA, NCS-Expert and Edibas Tool32.

I first removed the FA codes for the original battery by deleting the -B090 code on the CAS and LMA, and coded this to the car using FA Write.
Then I added the new battery code of -B110 to the FA list and coded this to the car using FA Write on the CAS and LMA.
I then read both modules using FA Read and both have the new -B110 code (for new 110ah battery)


Then I updated the CAS and LMA configuration files for the new battery by updating their FSW_PSW file as shown here using NCS-Expert.


I then ran the register new battery job from Edibas Tool32 using the MDS80 profile.


Finally I reset the IBS reset and histogram to reset the charge cycle for the new battery.


I left the car for a bit then removed and the battery for an hour and after reinstalling verified all the above (FA values and CAS/LMA config where still using the new 110 values which they where.

BUT still the car thinks it as the original 90ah battery installed as shown here...


So can anyone let me know if I am missing something or has anyone managed to do this already?

I would like to get DIS and SSS for making these things easier but so far can't find a working copy on VMware after a week of trying!

Its a guess - but can it be possible that the max Ah the car can be programmed to accept is 90?

I placed this battery http://reviews.halfords.com/4028/161078/reviews.htm in my 530d E60 . It's a 100ah and I did no coding. It works a charm. The old one was 90ah.

Hi,
The option list has battery options up to 110ah and the code is -B110 so it should allow it.
On the 2nd post your right installing a larger battery will most likely work, but you have to reset the IBS to allow it to start the charge cycle correctly.
But the issue is that the car is only charging to a max of 90ah and its basically wasting the last 20ah without correct coding.

My FA string shows +B110

You used -B110

I would try +B110

Thanks for the reply, I just changed both FA values to +B110 and registered the battery and reset the IBS, but still it shows 90ah.
Could you check your CAS and LMA config to compare to my config shown above?

Can understand why this isn't working.

Apartently ProgMan (SSS) does all this work for you, if only I could get that working

If you use progman to retrofit a new battery size it will inform you to use DIS to register the battery. You have me thinking now and I will go test it when I get chance as I changed my battery from 90ah to 110ah quite a long time ago and now the battery is going flat. Vk is correct the battery FA is "+" not "-".

Battery options for the E60 were-
80ah
90ah
110ah
80ah AGM
90ah AGM

Pre-packed VM installs ermmmmm I found one straight away.

did you code the whole car after you wrote the B110 to the CAS and LMA? you probably need to code whatever module is reporting the 90A. it's not just the IBS.

I don't think you'll lose the extra 20Ah. The way the charging works means that the battery (110Ah) will still get a full charge. The problem (which isn't that bad) is that the car will assume a max capacity of 90Ah and will give low battery warnings (and shutdown unnecessary consumers) when it thinks the charge is low (based on 90Ah), however, you'll still have another 20Ah to go.

Hi,
Basically the car will only charge my battery to 90ah, as it won't see that its actually a 110ah battery.
The module that holds the battery config is the CAS and LMA modules which are coded as shown above, is there another module that needs coding to get the car to see the new 110ah battery?

Has anyone successfully managed this using the tools listed above??
