You wont get much of a discount on the Benz either. BMW dealers in the UK are queing up to give 8-11% discount on most models. With the CLS you can forget about a discount !!

Wonder why Mercedes don't feel the need to discount as much as BMW ?

On the flipside dont forget discounts dont do much for residual values. The CLS will be worth much more at trade in time (both in $ and % terms). BMW residuals are a pretty crap at the moment and the E60 is just below the 7 series in terms of depreciation nightmare.

What really kills the CLS for me, since the two cars are both in my consideration set, is the complete lack of integrated bluetooth. It's not a case of "won't download my phonebook" or "won't show my signal strength", they've simply chosen to not implement a bluetooth solution.

It's too bad, because I liked both cars otherwise. Now it's down to the rest (550i, A6 4.2, M45, GS450h).

Now this is more of a comparision now. GS versus 5 series is a great comparision. VERY tough decision in my opinion although Road&Track said its nothing compared to a 5series.

A6 reminds me of the guy whos wife drives a mini van and he wants to rebel

M45 is just a poor shot towards lexus and its a Nissan. Never been a nissan fan.

The M45 is a surprisingly great drive; I just think it's ugly in a way that's not growing on me.

The GS450h has the nice cachet of being a hybrid plus being a Lexus (fewer electronic bugaboos). But the driving experience is nothing to write home about. Plus, I'm not in love with the appearance of the back half of the car (bulky in a uniquely hideous way).

I actually wrote off the A6 fairly early on, but it keeps winning these comparison tests. It's nice looking, has a great interior. but I like I-Drive slightly better than MMI and the driving experience of the 5er better.

In the end, I think I'm destined to get a 5 series.
