This was a problem of mine for several months. Mine also included an Active Steering not ?initialized? message.

I made a return service trip in early March. The work order noted the following:

?7688 CAUSED BY TERMINAL 30 G-F SWITCHING OFF TO EARLY CAUSED BY FAULTY CODING DATA IN KGM PERFORMED DIS TEST TO FIND FAULT A559 IN CLUSTER. PERFORMED TEST MODULE FOR FAULT TO DETERMINE CODING DATA NCORRECT AND THAT CAR NEEDED UPDATED PROGRAMMING. GWCODE 42847043. PROGRAMMED AND ENCODED CAR USING CIP 28.2 INCLUDING CAS. AFTER PROGRAMMING INITIALIZED ACTIVE STEERING AND RESET TPM MODULE? [These caps were as on the work order].

I don?t have much of a clue what all that says except that the Progman was updated, but I have not seen the problem since.

I have since been updated to 29.2

Don't ignore the comments about the key fob in the pocket. I have seen screwy stuff happen by pushing some unknown button at some unknown time.

My 08 535i does it almost always if I turn engine off, start the radio and after 15min to save power radio turn off automatically(the radio is suppose to turn off by itself, I know that) follows by clock reset. I'll tell my SA in 1 year inspection, I just don't want them rip up the whole dashboard thing to fix the clock problem.

After bringing my car in to have them check my issues, the dealer ended up changing my battery. So far its been a couple of weeks and my issues have not returned.

Excellent! BMW's are hungry for electrical power, that's why the battery is so huge, I assume.

I've had plenty of weird issues over the last few years and it was always a battery issue that seemed to explained/fixed the problem.
