When I switch my climate control to Auto and set the temperature down to 64 it really does not seem that cool (I mean it is cool, but not what I would expect). On hot days it is more comfortable to turn on Max AC then turn down the fan a bit. Does anyone else have this issue?

Press the snowflake button above the Auto button.

I use auto mode exclusively and the car cools down better than just about any car I've driven. I usually keep the temp between 66 to 70 depending on personal preference and outdoor temperature.

I'm not sure what you're point of reference is as far as what feels cool -- since they stopped using R-12 as a refrigerant some years ago, nothing feels as cold as the good old days but it should still be cold enough to cool the car...

You can also set the speed of fan to slow/normal/fast for AUTO mode in the AC settings of i-drive.

Have you moved the temperature adjustment to four blue bars for maximum cooling?

That's a good point -- although it only affects the center vent in the dash. The vents nearest the doors would not be affected by this setting...

I was used to the manual red/blue vent controls in my 330xi and totally overlooked the red/blue configuration in the iDrive climate section. As soon as I cranked those blue bars up everything was perfect. Thanks all.

There are Red/Blue bars in the idrive climate section???

I've had my car 2 weeks and didn't know this.

I know I had manual ones on my E46.

I'm going to have to check this out!
