i tried to search the forum for this but didnt seem to get results on this. but all i need to know if it is possible to self check the CIP version on my '04 530 ..

is there a way?

With Professional NAV - NO
Without PRO NAV possible using link above.
PROGMAN (formerly CIP) is SOFTWARE. It will be used to update some firmware in progammable arrays (CCC, EGS, ECU, M-ASK, etc.)

YOu can take a shot at guessing if you know what date it was last updated and using the table in the stickey in the Dealer Service and Purchasing forum. Always work from the last post backwards to find the latest info.
