I can confirm that CIP 20 will enable MP3 on early production e60s with Pro Nav. I just picked up my February 2004 production e60 from geting updated and MP3 works like a charm.

If your car is equiped with a prof. radio, it should be able to read mp3 discs, after a s/w upgrade to CIP 20.00.00.
I also believe it wouldn't be difficult to you to find out some kind of malfunction in your car to candidate your self to a free upgrade.
Good luck

My car is back, after almost a week for service. Oil + filters change and some small repairs, (noise from the steering wheel, noise from the back, broken lock of glove compartment, etc.) and, after a long, long waiting, s/w update to CIP 20 with MP3 capability.
And guess what? it works and works just fine. I?m so happy to get finally such a nice to have feature.
The noise from the back is still there, but the dealer has identified the origin of such noise. It is something to do with the back safety belts. As soon as the dealer gets the new items, already ordered, he calls me to do the replacement.
I believe I was very lucky when I decided to buy my car at this Dealer, they are just great.
Well back to the important thing, MP3? I?ve burned a CD for testing and decided to organize it in the following way:
- Root
- Artist/Band
- Album (Actually the CD)
- Music (Each song of the CD)
It works exactly that way, it?s superb!
Following some (bad) pictures I?ve taken last night to show you how it looks like.

As for MP3, the technician said NO. My car 3/05, no NAV will NOT play mp3. Sucks . . . .

Since yours is a March 05 I think you should have Prof Radio... if thats the case you TOO CAN play MP3s with CIP 20.00.
I on the other hand have a Nov 04 built car so I have Bus Radio and prob wont ever have MP3... ARGH!!!!!!

Are there any ways of telling the difference between the pro radio and business radio (appearance-wise)? I have the H/K premium sound and my cd drive does not say, "business radio."

can you tell the difference by where the track seek and eject buttons are located on the radio unit itself? The reason I mention this is a recent service loaner I had (an 07/05 production 530xiT..no nav) had the ability to play an MP3 disc I burned, however the car that I'm picking up in the next two days, a CPO 03/05 build 530xi with nav, couldn't play the mp3 disc. I'm hoping a CIP upgrade will take care of the problem. I noticed the radio unit in the touring wagon had the track seek and eject buttons on the left side of the unit, directly next to the power button, however in the saloon, the buttons were on the opposite side. Does this mean there is a difference in radio units? If so, would I be able to swap with a newer "different" radio?

Has anyone tested the DVD mp3 capability. Can you load up the full 4.5 Gigs with mp3z?! Or may be even a dual layer at 9 Gigs.
Is a folder structure necessary? thnx

Is a folder structure necessary? thnxI just burned a DVD with 4,3 G. It works beatifully
I tried with folder structure and without. No problems in either case... I havent tried a dual layer yet, but 4,3 G is a LOT as it is....
I used a DVD RW+. I also tried DVD+R and it worked as well. However, DVD-R was not recognized by the player. The burning engine i used was Nero 6.
Good luck!
