Those were my OEM 128's from my sport package which I converted to my winter set when the crappy dunlops were worn out. That is when I bought the 172's. There has been more than one thread about the BBS 128's cracking in half so of is not he first an unfortunately it won't be the last
u mean 124's correct? 128's are 19" 5 spoke (also 21" for the 7 series...)

124's

My mistake 124's. I have been looking at getting the wife a winter setup for here X5 so I have had rim numbers dancing in my head. haha Little did I know that I would be looking rims for me instead.

Well it is pothole season in Chicago and I now have the war wounds to prove it. I was motoring around our fair city at a fair 45mph when I was swallowed by a monster. The front rim is separated in two and the back rim is dented pretty bad, the Break caliper looks like it was broken and the stearing wheel is not so straight. I had my winter setup with a nice new pair of Michelin Pilot Alpine PA3's which saved the 172's but that is the only bright side. Only 1134 miles on the new setup. Good thing that i paid the 29.95 tire insurance.
WHOA! i lived in Chicago for 2 years and drove up and down lakeshore drv. almost every day but that is NUTS!

I bent 2 wheels and cracked another in Minneapols this past summer and I'm pretty sure my air pressure was too low but THAT is scary.

As I was driving my new car back from Chicago yesterday trying to dodge pot holes, I wondered if I should have purchased the tire & wheel protection package. They wanted $699, which sounded like a lot to me. I told them I plan to replace the OEMs with new wheels & tires, and they said it covered whatever wheels & tires you have on the car. Wonder now if I should have reconsidered?

That looks like a comprehensive automobile insurance claim ... especially if your suspension is damaged too!

I agree. Especially since those were your factory wheels and you have other damage.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN MAN.

I'm in Chicago, too. Last week on Christmas Eve I was heading to a friend's house on State st. downtown driving all the way from Barrington. As I got closer to Chicago driving on 290 it was like an obstacle course. I had to put the fogs on and drive extra slow just to stare at the ground the ENTIRE DRIVE. I also kept massive distance to the car in front of me to see the road well. I'll be damned if that happens to me!

What is thought to be the cause of the apparent high level of deteriorating roads in the Chicago area? Lake Shore Dr is just above sea level with the average for the city being 579 feet. What have the politicians done with all of those tax dolars for all of these years?

Did you mean to say 124's have a reputation for breaking? When I bought my new 2008 the dealer knew nothing of "wheel insurance". Good luck.
