OK just came back from an oil change and a week later my check engine soon light comes on. I only have 6,000 miles now.
What could this be?

I know in my old crappy GM cars this light would indicate an o2 sensor. Anyone have this light? What was it ? I have another appointment next week.

In case you haven't done so already, check your gas cap to make sure it's properly closed. If you find that it wasn't properly closed, the light will not go out immediately after you fix it, you have to wait a while before it automatically resets...

Well as a follow up to my earlier post last month on my check engine light. I called to make an appointment at my dealership to investigate the check engine light for last Monday Jan 26th.

Its not a loose gas cap. Its a bad exhaust temperature sensor. They had to order the part and install it and reprogram car.

I hope to get the car back today.

I always say that we have way too many sensors on these cars. You will find that in most cases the sensors will go bad instead of the actual part they are monitoring.

So I got new sensor installed and this past Monday my check engine light goes on AGAIN.

Made an appointment with my dealer for next tuesday when they have a BMW loaner available.

But I took it by on my way home on tuesday this week and they hooked it up to reveal the fault.

Another bad exhaust sensor. The same fault.

So next Tuesday I have a feeling they will have the car for a while until they figure out what is going wrong with this.

The service writer did tell me that this issue was documented and was in a bulletin somewhere.
