if you have your key on the on position without starting the car does the check engine light stay on or off? could anyone try it and help me out? thanks~

I had the engine symbol/icon stay lit continously for the last two weeks with no other warning.
This AM had it in to the dealer and they could not definitely find a problem. They said it might be a very small leak at the fuel cap seal. The icon is now blank and they said to bring it back if it comes back on.
