For the first time, I'm in the position of needing to change all four tyres at the same time. I currently have Goodyear Eagle NCT 5 run-flats. I have no problems with these other than the fact it will cost me around ?800 to change all four

My questions for UK owners (presuming we have different views on ride quality?):

If I buy normal tyres, will I find the ride too soft as I currently have a SE spec car. I have not noticed a firm ride so far, so I'm wondering if normal tyres will be too soft? Having driven a Sport spec car I can understand why some owners think run-flats are too firm.

If I but normal tyres, do I need to buy a BMW spare/jack (not cheap I believe) or are these cans of repair foam/glue legal i.e. you don't need to carry a spare?

Thanks.

Ian.

to be honist mate its a bit of a no brainer........DO IT.....your ride quality and comfort/noise levels are vastly better, run flats are pants, and only raved about by those who still have them.
99.9% of all punctures are progressive, they dont "blow out"
run flats were only put on BMW because that is the LAW if you dont have a spare....it was a cop out when the cars were built to save on cost/space.

you will think you have a new car when you fit "proper" tyres, just make sure there quality tyres and over 93y

good luck.

always a good idea to have a spare of some sorts, but i use a can of foam/repair, and am a member of AA/RAC

Dr Dave is indeed correct.

Just DO IT

You will then have a car that Mr Bangle and Herr BMW designed in the first place, not a mis-match.

Spare's aren't compulsory. Glue and a compressor work most of the time.

I have a spare, cost me ?85 from my local tyre place (brand new). Beware of eBay as most of the ones are for 3 series, and don't fit.

You can buy the kit if you're feeling flush. I'm a cheapskate and I modified a Vauxhall Omega jack to fit into the slots under the sill - took five minutes to hacksaw the plastic top.

Go for non-RF's Ian! Th RF's spoil the fine car.

My non RF 19" tires are "softer" than the 17" RF's.

A spare + jack is fine but you can also get a BMW tire repair kit,
what i have.

Err, no it's not. Lots of cars don't have run flats or a spare wheel.

If the flat repair kit (BMW vers) useable with BMW's TPMS ? ? Will the sealant cause problems with the electronics?

Hi mike,

I have a 530d M sport with run flats.
My question is about the spare well in the boot, I bought an 18" rim complete with tyre and I tried it in the well, it did not fit due to a bulge in the well, also I had to remove the PDC box- which is surrounded by polystyrene. How do I fit this tyre in to the well?
How much is the jack from BMW?

Thanks
Lee

you are kidding right?

there are no electrics with or on/in the wheels/tyres, the tyre pressure monitor works by sencing a difference between the programed pressure and a change in ride hight/rolling circumfrance..ie it changes when your tyre is flat, because the rolling circumfrence is different

only hummers have the tyre pressure valve system ASFSIK.
