Question Central Locking & Remote Keyless Entry Problems + Bonus Fuel Filler Door Issue!

Hi Guys,

I've searched on here, on Bimmerfest, Bimmerforums, and although I've come across many locking problem posts, I still haven't been able to find an answer to the combination of symptoms I'm experiencing with my NON-COMFORT ACCESS 2004 BMW 545i.

About a month ago my remote stopped working. No functions work - lock, unlock, trunk, alarm. I have the diamond shape non-serviceable key fob. When I press the central lock button on dash, all doors lock and unlock as usual.

At the same time that started up, I noticed that the following 2 things are now also happening:
1.) Manual double-turn of key in driver's door doesn't lock/unlock all doors as usually would, only drivers door locks/unlocks.
2.) Fuel filler door does not lock when I lock doors using central lock button on dash, even if I step out and manually lock drivers door with key.

Have checked fuses 11, 27, 53 and they're all fine. Replaced just to be safe - no difference.

The key works in ignition. Radio works perfectly on both AM and FM. Presets still in memory for everything - audio/radio, seats, steering wheel, climate controls.

My first thought was obviously the diversity antenna, but the radio and preset memory is fine. Then I thought it was the fuel filler door actuator, but if I manually pull the pin to mimic it being locked, it slides back into the unlock position if I unlock the other doors. WTF!

Any ideas?? It's driving me INSANE!

My key is the rechargeable type, not the serviceable type, as mentioned in OP. Also, even if battery was dead, central key locking and fuel door lock would still work, no?

They can be changed. There are a few guys that do it as a send in service. Check online.

Do you have the other key? How does it respond?
