It's not a changer. Its prime purpose is to access the navigation data DVD. If you "know where you're going" then you can manually replace the navigation data DVD with an appropriately burned ISO DVD containing MP3s.

I'm more than happy navigating from the root by appropriately named folders representing albums and appropriately named individual tracks. Never had a problem.
