Last night about 30 minutes before the dealership closed for the year I took delivery of my new 2007 530. Needless to say the dealer and I didn?t have a lot of time to go over all the options. It has the Logic7, Sirius and Nav system. It doesn?t have a CD Changer. Is this an extra option (I didn?t order one... but I thought it came with the Logic7)?

Is there a way to get my iPod to be controllable by the iDrive (not plugging the headphone jack, but really controlling it so I can select playlist and songs from iDrive). I thought the iPod interface was standard in 2007, but really that was my mis-understanding of the over marketing of the headphone jack in the backseat.
Is there a way to program what the telephone button does on the steering wheel? When I push it it will redial my last call; it would be nicer if it brought up the ?top 8 list? (the phone book on my blackberry is way too big to scroll through).

Sorry if most of these have been covered elsewhere in this forum. I?m a newbie to the forum and BMW. Honestly I don?t follow cars much (last car I bought was a jeep back in 1997) but when I sat in the comfort seats and turned the heat on I could see their was nicer things to diver than a beater jeep.

You can change what a couple of buttons on the steering wheel (the star and diamond buttons) control. I think one option is to bring up the recent calls list. Although, I don't have my car with me right now. Just something to check out.

Also, if you get the iPod interface through the dealer, and you are a BMWCCA member, you should get a discount. At least my dealer did.

Hope it helps.

Logic7 had the option of being ordered with or without the CD changer. I think it's only a dealer installed option. However, if you go with the MOST bus iPod interface option then you can't add the CD changer. With the iPod interface you can access playlists from the iDrive screen. The iPod interface is not the same as the AUX interface.

I don't recommend CD changer, it is big and it can't store as many songs as Ipod does. Also, your ondash CD can play MP3 CD which can play almost 100 songs. It even plays Rewritable CD too.

The Logic 7 is now a stand alone factory option. There used to be a Premium Sound option package that included Logic 7 and the 6-disc CD changer in the glove box. The CD changer is no longer a factory installed option but rather can be installed by the dealer (in the glove box). You cannot get the IPOD adapter from the factory but can get it installed by the dealer, also in the glove box. You can only get either the CD changer or IPOD adapter (MOST bus installed) but not both. I opted for the IPOD adapter and have not been unhappy about it. It holds all my CD's and is fully accessible through I-Drive via album name, playlists, genre, artist name, etc. I had read that the CD changer was difficult to get to (particularly from the driver's seat) and it would have cost about twice as much. Of course, that does not count the cost of the IPOD. Make sure you get either a generation 4 or 5 IPOD to be fully compatible. Check with your dealer's parts department for specific details.

The star and diamond buttons can be set to control a number of different functions. I have one set to scroll through the various Entertainment options (AM, FM, WB, SAT, CD) and the other set up to call up the telephone address book. You can set them through the Settings screen on I-Drive.

Enjoy your car!!!

Thank you all very much. Tuesday I'll ask them to get me a MOST bus iPOD adapter for them to install. I love the car.

Has anybody else found the the Logic7 audio too left/front for the driver (I did find the buttons to do the fading/balance)?

It does not image as well as some cars (like the ML in my old GS430) - however the overall sound quality is as good if not better than most.

I haven't noticed the audio balance being driver oriented. My settings are pretty much factory default with fader/balance centered. I think the overall sound is better than the Mark Levinson that I had in my LS 430.

The MOST bus adapter is a BMW offered interface. There are two (for the E60) iPod interfaces. One is the simple AUX input that's of lower quality audio and has no iPod specific controls. The second is the MOST bus interface that uses the optical bus and connects to the iPod dock connector and lets you control the ipod using the steering wheel buttons, iDrive interface and displays song/artist information on the MID/iDrive screen.
