I've searched the forums and found various bit of info (inserting a credit card under the changed to manually pull it out etc) but nothings working - it just keeps clicking and getting stuck. The CD's are not being registered and I can see cd 2 from the window is what is causing the problem - it keeps clicking in and out.
Can someone confirm if the car will need to be reprogrammed if the CD changer unit is replaced!? I've just got my car back after 3 days of being programmed with the new firmware! Could this be causing the problem (although the problem looks more hardware related).
Any help appreciated.
My car is under warranty but am a bit cautious to take it in as all the cd's in the changer are burnt discs and they might try to void the warranty because of using cd copies and not originals!

I can feel your pain. I had the same thing happen to me. I pulled and pulled on that magazine while holding the button down, listened to it cycle and it still wouldn't come out. There's apparently a special tool that the dealerships have that will pop the magazine out. You shouldn't have to have the car recoded as the iDrive already recognizes the CD changer. I'd bring it to the dealership and ask them for help, that's what I ended up doing and it was covered by warranty.
Do your Cd's have the paper labels on them? If so that might be what's gumming up the works.
Good luck.

There is a tool which a fellow Bimmer submitted in this forum:

see if the dealer will get it out or maybe you can buy the tool.
Good luck.
