My Ride: 2008 M5, Silverstone II/Black
Default

When I first opened my glovebox after taking delivery I was unable to get it closed again. I had just taken out the manual ( a huge leather-bound thing weighing about one and a half kilos in the M5). I got down in the footwell and saw that the faceplate for the changer was wedged between the back of the glovebox and the dash. I fished it out thinking I could reattach it but no luck.

So when time came for my 1200 mile service I asked them to have a look. They were running late and asked me to reschedule, which I did for today.

Now they're telling me that it has been declined as a warranty repair as I have caused the problem through physical damage, i.e. the faceplate has been crushed through my actions. Of course although I know I didn't do it, I can't prove I didn't. The changer won't work without the faceplate apparently (don't know, I have never used it) but a new one will cost ?520 plus VAT exclusive of fitting!

My argument back to them is that the service person who filled in the service book after pre-delivery and then put the manual back could just as easily have caused the damage.

Anybody had any similar experiences?

BTW, the SA was quite snotty on the phone
