Today, i went to Mr.Lube and they recommended Castrol Edge for my 2005 BMW 530i.. they said it could last up to 24000 km and free top up if my oil is low..they said it is the best for my car.. total came up to $150.. is this correct? 24,000km? has anyone tried this?

That is a pretty good deal for the Long Life certified Castrol!
I use that oil and I change it at every 20,000 to 22,000kms. At least here in Finland Castol Edge is a recommended oil by BMW.

Just thought this was too good to be true.. because I usually change my oil every 6-7000 km and that was about $110 and for another $50 i can last to 24,000km,, I guess that is a pretty good deal

I would still check my oil frequently if I were you.
The dealers say on brand new bimmers you only need an oil change 1/ year.
I'm not sure how good that is for a car though.

Your car is an '05, mine is an '04. They're high Mileage cars now. A frequent oil change may be in your best interest.
I'm not putting you down, just saying be careful because an engine is a little harder to replace when it goes

Cheers

I have a 530D and have changed the oil as recommended by BMW CBS around 28000km.

The car now has around 112,000km and has started to burn a bit of oil. I suspect potential turbo issue.

If I bought another I would not let it go beyond 19000km without an oil change

On the subject of the brand, castrol edge is well worth it.

No need to be sorry, you're right. I just checked the report of my last oil change service and it definitely is Castrol SLX PROFESSIONAL Powerflow BMW LL04 0W-30 that they put in.
