I guess the black colour might be showing up imperfections more than a lighter one. I know when I got my last new car (Audi A4) in a pale blue colour, there were gunky deposits on the roof.

It's possible that the dealers valeting team simply rushed the job. As suggested above - I would advise against something like T-Cut, it's simply too abrasive.

Either get your supplying dealer to sort it out, of buy youself some decent, car care products. I reckon that giving the car a once over with a clay bar, followed by a cleanser and finally a decent wax would sort out the problem

My Carbon Black 530d is due (hopefully) in the next week or so (it was a Hull docks yesterday), but I plan to spend a full day, detailing the car myself using Zymol products (not cheap but very good)

I detailer I know, has suggested that the paint on brand new cars has contaminats and should be clayed.

Personally (being a bit of a sceptic) I 'd be wary about asking a dealer to sort it as they're likely to take the quickest & cheapest option to fix it (i.e. T-Cut)

Here's a pic of my A4 after being Zymol'd

I spoke to the dealer today and due to circumstance wont be able to take the car in until first thing saturday morning.....

Issues being addressed are as follows.

Paint work blemishes (they have agreed to put right)
HGSL (even although it matters not to me it may be bargaining power for other incidentals)
Ipod cable (this may be my free offering for bad paint and lack of HGSL)

I'll update soon as i have news.

Thanks for all the comments, whilst i love valeting/detailing any of my cars, this one is less than a week old so i wont be doing any of the work, it's down to BMW & their Dealer to put this problems right for me.

I may have an issue with my paint... i've noticed all around the car there seems to be a residue which i can only liken to ..... spilt petrol.... kind of purple in colour, it is worse on the edges of the rear spoiler and on the shark fin.... took the pics with my phone 5 mins ago so please excuse quality.... the marks near the spoiler were there when i got home from collection last friday and were put down to lack of final prep... all i did on sunday was wash the car with a mild car shampoo and hose off, i noticed the smaller marks at this point, surely not simply characteristics of the Carbon Black ????

Any thoughts?
Just been re-reading this thread and notice that you make reference to the marks being like spilt petrol / purple in colour. This makes me wonder if you've got contamination on you paintwork by following another vehicle that's been burning excessive oil and throwing oil particles into the air that have landed on your car.

I remember about a year ago following an old Escort that was burning a large amount of oil. It then began to rain and my windcreen was covered in hundreds of tiny oily patches resulting in me not being able to see a thing. Wonder if something similar has happened to you? Just a thought..... When I later washed the car the front leading edges of each panel were covered in a similar way!

Spent time popping into the dealer yesterday....

The 'residue' is down to them/bmw apparently it is part of the coating used for protection during transportation that was not entirely removed, they have agreed to a 'full' valet including polish to rectify the problem.

The HGSL was news to the dealer, they are looking into this and have mentioned the possibility of retrofit... not so sure I'd want it retrofitted, quite happy with it as it stands (matt), I'm hoping i can screw them for something, can anyone tell me the list price for HGSL?

The ipod cable... my sales person was put in his place over his claims that the part did not exist, he is now looking into supplying this to me.

fyi: when ordering the usb/aux socket, the 'through vent' in the centre consol is deleted, another deletion i wish i had made is the smoker package, aparently when deleted the replacement is a larger internal area storage tray.

I wish i ran my own dealership, i truely believe that these days the interest is in shifting units of vehicles, i would do this too but the opportunity to make profit in oem land is huge and my dealer for one seems to not be capitalising on this.

more news as it unfolds.

I've never seen one in the flesh (deleted smoker's package). I was told "stuff" too - like the cigarette lighter sockets disappear. If that's the case where do you get internal power from when you need it?

To my knowledge the lighters are replaced by the sprung 12v socket cover... makes sense I guess... i hear you on the point of where they would be located though hmmm.

Glad you have an explanation regarding the paintwork - I read an old post on here recently which linked to an old article in EVO magazine. It detailed the process a new BMW goes through once built before arriving at the UK dealers. Basically, when they are transported they are covered in a protective film of 'stuff' which is left in place until they arrive at the UK Vehicle Distribution Centre in Thorne. At this point they go through a giant car wash (no brushes) which sprays a chemical solution onto the car at high temperature which is supposed to dissolve the protective 'stuff' before going through a dryer. I guess this is then followed up by a more thorough valet once at the dealers. To be honest, I think it is very poor of them to have allowed your car to go out like that, especially when you look at the list price of one of these!

Regarding the list price of the HGSL, this is option '760 - High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim' and costs ?285, but should be standard on the LCI M Sport model as detailed on page 48 of the latest 5 Series brochure, and also within the Price List brochure in section 'Optional Equipment, Exterior Equipment'. Hope this helps. I am interested to see if my car has the HGSL fitted when I hopefully collect sometime this week.

The 'Giant' car wash process you describe is what will happen to my car this week at my local dealers, this will be on a much smaller scale and leads me to think the 'Giant' was either broken or not working properly. I gave the 'beastie' the once over with a mild shampoo at the weekend and it made the purply/blue marks stand out even more, right now my e60 looks as though it has a mild case of measils

I'm sure they will resolve the spotty issue and have promised to give it a 'full' valet, to be honest i'll accept nothing less at this point.

HGSL - well i'm still in the dark and no one has commented here as to the issues regarding retrofit, if it's an option then i may consider allowing them to do it, i do like the Matt Black though... Palmo... thanks for the list price on the trim, i thought it was around that rate, ?285 should bag me a couple of goodies not to mention the grief i'll give them over the resale value and how it will be affected , it will be interesting to hear their offering, hopefully at some point prior to my going in on saturday for the valet.

Good luck today collecting yours Palmo... I have to say last night I took the family into the New Samsi (Japanese resturant) in Manchester, on the way back out towards St Helens I noticed i'd crept over the 1000mls, having achieved that milestone i opened the 'beastie' up a little, i can confirm the 'beastie' has legs and corners beautifully... my wife on one occasion noted the 'slow down' sign approaching the long sweeping entry road for the M6, I ignored both the sign and my wife, kept the foot in and well ............. you'll see for yourself as the weeks pass and your e60 loosens up.

I still miss my Alfa Romeo's Having said that.... WoW I love my e60 more and more every day
