My Ride: 2004 530i Xenon, Sport, Premium, Automatic, Logic 7, Orient Blue & Auburn Dakota Leather with Dark Poplar Wood Trim

My car a 2004 BMW 530i automatic with 113,000 miles went this morning to turn it on and all the lights came up normal but the there is no crank, nothing, nada. All the lights in the dashboard are ok but when turning the keys to the on position , the car wont do anything. I tried jumping the car with similar result. At this point im sure it's not the battery. I guess is the starter or fuel pump. I dont get any engine light or message in the iDrive. Please let me know if anyone had a similar problem and what was the solution.

Thank you in advance

Aaron

Maybe the key is not communicating with the car? Try a second key if you have one?

Had the exact same problem with my 2007 525i. In my case it turned out to be the starter motor. Mileage appr. 115k ( kilometres).

Test another key first. Do you hear the starter solenoid close? If so you are getting all the modules to communicate and receiving 12V at the solenoid. Then it is almost for sure the starter. Throw a multimeter on the starter leads and have someone turn the key to be positive.

If no 12V at the solenoid try the IVM.

Starter is a pain to get at on the 530i but not nearly as bad as the 545i, where you have to remove a large chunk of the exhuast system. Those German engineers are S&M freaks!

Do you know how to use a multimeter and get the leads connected to the starter motor?

Was the cheapest thing to check first! Like the others said either you or a shop needs to check the starter and battery cables.

Got the car back from the shop. It was the starter. Paid $400 cash for part and labor. Saw the old part and it was a Denso unit.
The mechanic is someone that I have used for the last 20 years to service or fix any repair with all the cars that i have owned.
