Eric, I might suggest a couple of things. First, I have an alarm system on windows and doors. Second, I keep the spare keys in a 1000 pound safe. Then, I use a 1911 .45 for a backup system. Shotgun would work just as well. Some people that do not want a gun in the house use small but loud dogs. Others use Dobermanns and Rottweilers.

Hey JDN, this is Europe. not wild willd Texas.
We can't shoot people over here, even in our property...... unfortunatelly.

A class 5 alarm with sat tracking is an option I guess....

Yep. That helps.

Did your colleagues have a class 5 alarm? I'm considering it, but others tell me "good" thieves are able of disturbing it so it doesnot work. So, does it work as prevention?

It's not a prevention. When they have your keys you don't get a notice that the car is in use, only when they brake in. But as soon as you notice it's gone, you can track them down! They can't disturb the system, snce they don't know that it's there. Even if, they don't know which system you have and where it is installed. That's why car manufacturers don't offer this as a regular factory installed option. Thiefs would know where it is and how to disable it.

not to scare you all but those "professionals" can steal you car and break in your house in seconds. no matter what kind of system you have :'(. other than trunk monkey, you might want to park your car inside your garage and put all kind of security alarm companies' stickers. beware of dangerous wife sign . oh, i mean beware of dog sign .

GPS tracking is very easy to disable, they just duck tape a leaf of lead on the antenna.

I have removed useless alarm stickers from house and car and put up a shield saying:

"This house is guarded by shotgun once a week, you guess which"

Problem is that I am not allowed to have a shotgun, have to do it with something that has written D.E. .50 on it's side, for backup there's some rugers in .44 and .357
BTW I have a permit and of course they are in a vault.

In SA we have to have a Sattelite tracking system installed in high value cars, before they can be insured.

However if my car is ever stolen, I don't want it back, after some criminal has been driving it.

l would rather get a new one!

How long before someone, maybe BMW includes some sort of biometric device to allow for a truly keyless experience? As a side benefit, it would be nice to be able to tell the valet -- "sorry, you can't park my car..."
