My Ride: 2008 Sapphire Black on Black M5 - loaded sans soft close doors

While sitting at a stop light I felt a bump - looked behind me and nobody was there. Looked down and the car was dead. Took two tries to re-start. Got to work sat there for a couple of minutes and it basically did the same thing - except this time it caught itself and reved up to 2,000 and then settled down. About 5 minutes later, same thing.

Got gas this morning -not my normal station - was however Mobil.

Any thoughts?

It's very cold in Chicago. You could have some water in your gas tank.

Seems odd that after several days of below zero weather here in Chicago that you now have this problem. I think you are right .... gotta be the gas. But what can you do for the rest of this tank?

Had a similar problem in a Toyota years ago, stumbling idle, loss of power on acceleration. Shell petrol from normal source, they denied having any other complaints, but it cleared once the tank was depleted and refilled.

Dealer tells me some stations are now pushing 15% ethanol and they have had some water problems with this. Probably not Mobil but who knows. The tank is totally full. Ugh...

Update
Check engine light came on on the way home, loud grinding noise from front end, Active Steering Reinitialization error (yes, SZL has been replaced) and car died at stop sign (only once).

I think I'm having this towed in.
