Just as the title says my 2006 525 is sputtering at 4000 rpm and up. It seems like its missing? Any ideas before I take it to the dealer? Plugs and cooling system are good? Maybe restricted fuel filter?

Thanks

Do you have a way to read the fault codes and see what it thinks is wrong? May be something simple like an ignition coil, which you can easily replace yourself. No point paying the dealer to do that.

Misfire from a bad coil may not show up on the I-drive. Happened to me recently - the I-drive finally bong'd when it got really bad, and gave me an e-bollocking about misfires feeding gas to the cats and causing environmental problems. Turned out to be just one coil out of 8.

That is you eccentric shaft sensor (Valvetronic) going bad. You should have it replaced. May try doing it yourself if you are good with a wrench.

Ok car is at the dealer with a 5000 bill. I got the valvetronic sensor replaced oil pan gasket and rear drivetrain all replaced. Thank
God it's under warranty! Gonna cost me 560 for deductible. I think I am going to extend the warranty. Thanks for the heads up about the sensor

Please let us know if replacing the Valvetronic sensor fixed the misfiring problem. Thanks...
