My Ride: BMW 525i Touring
Model Year: 2004
Engine: E61
The MPM is not what I call cheap to buy new, as here in the UK I was quoted about Ł190. That's POUNDS not Dollars, if you install it yourself.
It looks simple on a saloon E60 but on my Touring E61, I had to remove most of the interior trim in the luggage area just to get into the bottom of the spare wheel well where it and 5 other electronic components are installed..... right at the very lowest point of the bodywork! Stupid or what? There are no drain holes so any water etc getting in there will short out the delicate electronic components! Mine however was completely dry with absolutely no sign of any dampness.
I have now re-positioned them all in the left side rear compartment (where your CD player may be positioned, although mine is in the glove box) There is stacks of room in there and it is about 2 foot higher that where they were originally.
Having said all that, I bought a used MPM module on E-bay and it was also faulty! They are sending me another, but now I am worried that it may be a fault elsewhere causing the failure of my i-Drive. I am hoping the next one will be OK.
Does anyone know if there is a way to test the MPM so I know for sure it is that which is causing the problems?
In desperation!!!!
