i have a 2005 545i and i don't know what's wrong with this car. sometimes when it is in idle...it just dies. also, when i step on the brakes, it has this jerking motion and when coming from a complete stop, once i start moving again, the rpm goes down , then immediately goes up.

could somebody tell me what's wrong with it...what could be the problem?

Why don't you take it to a local BMW dealer?

Welcome to the forums AMD. Unless you're greater than 50K, the car should still be under factory warranty coverage. Possible culprits could be a faulty fuel pump, vaccum leak, faulty sensor (too many possibilities to list), faulty TPS, clogged injector, and the list goes on. Is the check engine light illuminated?

the car has 53k on it, but i bought the extended 100k waranty. the check engine light hasn't turned on yet. it would take a day for them to find the fault and fix it, huh?

Depends. Modern BMWs have proprietary diagnostic capabilities that go beyond what OBDII requires. Their proprietary scan tools may be able to identify a fault the $150 buck scanner from Pep Boys cant, including falures that wouldn't necessarily cause the MIL (check engine light) to illuminate. You'd be very wise to take it to the dealer and gain peace of mind and vehicle safety and reliability in the process.
