It seems the general consensus of a select few members clearly recommend the the starter is the culprit. Howver the best way to dianose this would be to uninstall the starter and check its functions electricaly, but this may not be neccessary if you knew how a starter properly functions. A starters only job is for the armature to initially turn the flywheel until combustion occures. I would advise him to check the starter as well but Op clearly states " Cranking (na-na-na-na-na-na-na) but won't start." which would only demonstrate to us that not only does the solenoid have to ability to be energized, it also is getting SUFFICIENT engergy to turn the flywheel for 7-10 seconds, which could only hint that the starter is doing wwhat is was designed to do.

It was the fuel pump. And at $195(unneeded new battery)+$95(tow)+$370(fuel pump)+$1000(labor at Currys Auto here in the DC Metro Area, they said my total was $1500+) my worse nightmare with my car JUST ending it's CPO warranty has come true.

I should have just changed the fuel pump myself with instructions here: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/m5-...-diy-pics.html

And got a used fuel pump for $75 here: www.car-part.com

I think I'm going to be sick. Somebody make me feel better.

You're under charging.... but it looks like you might be near me. Where are you located in SoCal? My warranty is just about to expire and will be searching for a good indy shop.

I'm in DC/Northern VA.... Decided on Currys Auto (got my new tires balanced/alignment done there few months back) figured it would be cheaper than the stealer.

I'm QUITE unhappy. Just spoke to Currys and here is the breakdown:

364 - fuel pump
222 - fuel filter/jet/sending unit on other side (suggested I do this while doing fuel pump) (They did not mention this cost to me on the phone)
62 - diagnostic
351 - 117/hr labor - 3 hrs fuel filter ANND
351 - 117/hr labor - 3 hr filter/jet/sending unit (I SWEAR they never told me this on the phone earlier today)

Live and learn. I think I could have easily done this job myself. I just was sick of troubleshooting and thought it could have been a simple code with a simple ignition problem. I understand I own an expensive car with expensive upkeep, deal!

Gurus,
My BMW 550i E60 is cranking but not starting.
I diagnosed it and i has the following errors.
1. AOB8 Hall sensor start/stop button ,key engaged
2. AOB 2 suppy terminal 30E, 30
3. AOB6 selector-lever interlock

Basically i got the gearbox removed and put back and the car has:
1. not been able to engage the gear lever after its switched on and brake step on.
2. cranking but not starting..plugs not sparking either
3. key not engaging nicely.

Please help urgently.

Hello everyone, i have the same symptoms here, car cranks over and cranks but will not start. Because of this usually the battery drains a lot trying to crank it. I have checked that there is spark and fuel pressure at the rail. Before trying to turn it on, there was no fuel, could the fuel pump have gone bad and still deliver fuel to the rail? Would a more than a handful of times cause a few cylinders to loose compression because of fuel being flooded? i am at loss here and need some insight on my situation. I was told that it could possibly be a bad engine.

06 550i AT Transmission 184k mileage.

thanks in advance
