My Ride: 2004 Lexus RX330. Looking to buy 2010 535i.
Default

Thank you very much. Sorry for the unintentional "thread jacking." I was looking for some kind of A/C thread and came across this one. I've been driving myself nuts over the past couple of months, trying to decide what to buy. I've had a Lexus RX330 for nearly 5 years. (No laughing please; I needed an SUV for a particular reason, and thought that the RX did the trick for what I needed. As it turns out, I've hated the car since I drove it home in August 2004 -- it's such a girly and doofus car -- but it never breaks and Lexus service is incredible. My wife has had a Lexus ES350 for the past 2 years and it's a lovely car and nothing ever breaks.)

Anyway, I didn't want another Lexus (e.g. LS460) which is so similar to what we already have, and is a boring car. I went for a test drive in a 535i and was blown away. The last time I felt like this was 40 years ago when I owned a 1969 red MGB -- but the BMW is more appropriate for my advanced age and, ahem, status. I also drove a used 2008 750iL. I've been trying to decide between buying a brand spanking new 535i and a used 2007/2008 750i. A used 2008 would cost around the same as a new 535. I've seen nothing but whining and complaining on all the boards about how BMW's fall apart after 3-4 years and 30-60k and how the A/C doesn't work, etc., etc. This has led me to believe that I should buy a new 535i (my dealer says that the 2010's should be here within the next couple of weeks - that's 2010, not the 2011) rather than a used 750i, though I am astounded by the horrible depreciation these cars exhibit after one and two years.

This may not be the right thread to ask your advice on Bimmer purchases, but you guys clearly love the BRAND and know whereof you speak. So, I humbly would like to ask y'all's advice in this regard -- a new 535 or a used 750i or even 535i -- and also on which other thread should I post this question to get a wide response.

Thanks much.
kpp, ph.d.

The ridiculous things people find to worry about. Never ceases to amaze me. Everyone with an IQ over 100 needs to band together to stop the forwarding of urban legends.

You turn your AC off when you're about to get out of the car?

I switched my AC on when I got the car in October last year and haven't turned it off since then. It's busy filtering pollen in spring, dehumidifying (anti-fogging) in winter and cooling in summer. It's always doing something, so it stays on.

Please go to the E60 Discussion board and click on "New Topic" on the right-hand side. Simply copy and paste that comment as your post. It's a good post, just in the wrong place.

Hey Bteljuice....thanks for posting this, whether or not it is taken seriously, is not up to you, just know you did the right thing!
Thanks a lot bro. Glad to know someone has my back
Comments like the others will let me post less info and become more of a reader rather than a poster
