This now leads to the question of can i fit one myself??
My dealer has placed the order & will gladly have the new i-drive knob sent directly to me, but to those who have done/seen this swap, is it just a case of pulling the current one off (easily) & replacing it with the new one or is it really a dealer job??

Now i've got used to the new controller, i much prefer the look & feel over the original all aluminium knob.
I only realised once i saw it fitted in my car that it matches the steptronic gear lever, as the darker metal colour down the centre of the gear lever exactly matches the metal colour of the new i-drive controller, along with the leather/plastic controller top matching the armrest & leather seats perfectly.
I've got the original one so can change over if required, or may sell it at some point as i defo prefer the my06 version.

You're right, i guess it would not match up well with a non black interior scheme.
