Steering wheel alignment issues, especailly after a software update, are typically due to the failure of the tech to properly adjust the active steering centering. If you don't have AS, then it is another problem.

There is a very simple software based AS alignment procedure they must perform once the new software has been loaded and it took two attempts to get it right for me. They either forget to do it altogether or do it slopily.

There was also a version of software that caused it to go out of alignment some time later. You could search for it on this site. I think it was around CIP 18 that it showed up and it was fixed in the next release.

OK, here's the deal, my car is booked in tomorrow at Damon Hill Warwick for an alignment check / adjustment.
To be honest I am very nervous of the car coming back worse (the car is only 5 months old 8k miles) the reason for it going in is that the steering wheel apperars to be slightly left when traveling straight ahead, I'm sure it has been like this from new, no abnormal tyre wear though.
Not to worry... if the car isn't pulling and you don't see abnormal wear you're okay. It's just a matter of a minor adjustment. It's almost a DIY job in some cars. I had the same thing in my E53 and the dealer quickly took care if it.

Got the car back from the dealer (Sytner Coventry), the steering wheel seems pretty straight and it was all covered under warranty

Mine is off to the right just a little, but I am afraid if I bring it in to the dealer, it will then be just a little off to the left.
