So I put the gauges on the blue 528i and they are reading 100 psi low and high when car is not running. Is that normal ?
I'm pretty sure the a/c was working on this car before I ripped tranny.
If the AC has not been used for a long period, I would think that those readings look normal. The high and low side will tend to equalize after a long time of non-operation. The good news, I suppose, is that you don't have a leak in that system!

Quick question. I'm in store looking to buy socket set. The special bolts and the tensioner on the BMW. Are they just standard e sockets and star bits ?

Can't answer you there - I am but just a dumb engineer and I leave that esoteric stuff to my mechanic.
Put it in the 528i compressor which was exactly the same.
Boom
I pulled a vacuum on it on it and it did the very same. Lost -30psi to zero in less then 15mins. But it took the Freon no problem and started cooling right away.
I will I’ll keep you posted on if it holds a charge, and I’m going to double check the gagues on another car with vacuum.
Thank you you for all your help. When I get settled after this I will put up a post with everything I learned.
