I actually took my 530 to the dealer the other day and they said it was the compressor , so they ended up replacing it, and now instead of warm air i get arctic air in less than a minute, still trying to get used to the change of actually having a working a/c .

Update:
They told me it was a bad compressor and drier. They quoted me at $605 for parts and $280 for labor. That seems like a good deal but I really don't know. What do they charge at the stealership?
thanks

I usually roll down all the windows and let all that hot air out, sometimes I don't even want to turn the AC on for fear of the car overheating. Hope my AC holds up to the Texas heat as I plan on moving to the Dallas area this summer.

If your freon is low, there is a leak. This is a sealed system and there is no way for the freon to escape other than a leak. Think of your fridge.....it never needs a "re-charge"

So I'm back on this thread, and have the same problems. I'm getting so pissed I have to endure the heat all the time. I didn't not see the response when I had replied last year about those saying you had compressor problems. I've suspected this was the case all along, I took it to shops and they said it was fine. When I accelerate hard my air goes hot too...so I don't think the Texas summer is to blame for that. I may take the car into the shop to get a quote on the compressor.

THe E60 is a different setup from my other bimmers. My AC starts blowing cold with a 5 mile drive and has been for years so I guess 3-5 min. My other bimmers blow cold immediately. I know a few others with E60 and they say the same.

Just had the AC compressor replaced and its fixed. It blows bone chilling cold now, I can't believe I went so long with a busted A/C. It was around $800 for parts and labor, A/C cools instantly.

To my surprise, it seems that the last time I measured my gauge was broken! I guess my A/C Compressor was a bit overfull.
I captured all the refriderant and then vacuumed the lines down and refilled to 38PSI. Cools down quicker now. Of course it's been about 92 outside and if the car is parked, it's like 130 inside (even with tinted windows) but it blows cold after about 1 min.
