I'll add my agreement to all of you ... the A/C is both powerful and loud.

By the way, the A/C seems to cool much better (more quickly and to a more-reliable temperature) now than it did when the car was brand new. This wouldn't seem to be a system that would need "breaking in," but our recent spate of outrageously hot weather has not overwhelmed the climate control in my dark-colored e60!

Simply turn the middle knob to the left after pushing max a/c, to turn down the fan to where it is not loud.

Wait so what does it do? I never use "MAX AC" I just hit the auto button and it howls like a hurrican and then when it gest reasonably cool i turn the fan speed knob and that turns off the "auto" part of Auto AC so I figured that turning the fan speed will disable auto ac no matter what.

yep, that's what i thought too. but apparently you can set the fan speed for MAX AC. If you turn it down it still keeps the recirc on and apparently the temperature at the coldest (since the MAX AC light doesnt go off).

Then i guess that to turn off MAX AC you have to either push the button again or just set a different temperature.

tnx

There are several settings that can produce that result:

The AC has three different programs on the i drive menu. LOW,MED, HIGH...

Then you can choose the out temperature air on the diagram showing the blue and the red graphs...

And the temperature on the controls at the dash...

And the recirculation MODE on the dash too...

If you put all this settings at MAX you will get a lot more noise with a much colder air .... sometimes freezing...

Around here in summer usually i use it in the MED program, Full blue graph and the temperature around 22? C and NO recirculation mode... fantastic... and no noise at all.
