buying from a private seller
sup guys?
I still haven't bought my 535 yet but most of the CPOs are gone when I checked this morning. Maybe it's a server problem or whatever.
However I did find a pretty appealing 2008 535i that is fully loaded for $32000 OTD at 45000 miles, but it's from a private seller.
The price seems pretty attractive and the color isn't bad.
I don't know if it's worth the buy because of the warranty and maintenance.
1. Is it possible to get the car (1-owner) certified and get the 2 year CPO warranty? I don't think so but i'm still gonna ask.
2. Is it possible to BUY the $0 maintenance plan?
3. What sort of warranty or peace of mind could I get from BMW if buying from a private seller? or is it all up to luck whether the car fails?
4. Lastly, is the HPFP warranty transferrable?
Thanks guys, really close to getting one!
I'm sorry for the all the troubles in the previous 3 threads, but you guys are the most knowledgeable people I could find.
Thx again!

Severely overpriced. Check auto trader and you will find several 535i's selling for 29-33k with less than 30k miles. Here's a private sale on auto trader for example: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false
First, the price is too much. Get it down to $29k and it becomes acceptable.
You can get the 0 maintenance plan for the car from any BMW dealer.
It cannot be certified pre owned because it would have to be bought by the dealer and you'd have to buy it from them and pay taxes. However , I understand that BMW now has an extended warranty that is better than cpo and it's available from a dealer.
HPFP warranty follows the car, so it's transferable.
As for taxes, you 'd have ask your state's DMV. My state doesn't charge sales taxes on private transaction, so I prefer to buy used cars that way.

2. Is it possible to BUY the $0 maintenance plan? Not sure...
3. What sort of warranty or peace of mind could I get from BMW if buying from a private seller? or is it all up to luck whether the car fails? I would think an after market warranty would be available... I think I had 2 weeks from the purchase from a non BMW dealer to decide.
4. Lastly, is the HPFP warranty transferrable? Warranty? I think BMW will honor a HPFP issue no matter who owns the car if its the year and model experiencing the issue...

In Connecticut, where I live, you pay the sales tax at time of registration, regardless who you bought the car from. And you pay taxes on book value. No more lowballing the bill of sale.

Taxes - Not sure about CA, but most states charge sales tax on ANY vehicle transfer; dealer or private. In PA new and used are 6-7% depending on your county. For a private transaction, they even hold the seller responsible if the "reported sale price" is below KBB (or other) to reduce tax.
If you trade a vehicle through a dealer purchase of a new or used car, the sales tax applies just to the net difference (IE the value of your trade is not taxed).
You being in CA, it's hard to believe you won't be taxed since CA seems to bend people over at every opportunity!

well fu** me then haha
cuz 10% tax really is a lot when buying an used car.
With tax given, should I ever consider a private seller's car? No CPO warranty, no $0 Maintenance package, the car isn't certified.
The only good thing about getting a private seller's car is that it's way cheaper than a dealer's CPO.
