Also you save about 3k off the price because of that Bmw dealership doesn't have to put it through CPO certification (it's some where in the ball park of 1500 - 2000$) to CPO it. Then the cost of bringing it up to spec., which sometimes cast be an uncessary cost.

For me, the previous owner put brand new michaelen's on them which would have needed swapping out. That would have been an extra cost of new wheels and install packaged into the sale price.

Just learned an interesting fact about the COSTCO warranty plan.
Pricing based on mileage with breaks at 25, 35, 45, & 60! It's a $500 ded plan with exclusions only.

This car is just over 60k and that adds $1,300 to the cost of the plan.

$4,600! 3 year/36k
$3,300 if under 60k

Big bummer!

typically dealers dont have the option to buy a lease return directly anymore as the lender will simply take to auction where lots of cars will bring more than residual value. The majority of leases now have lease buy out fees from 1500 - 5 grand simply for this fact.

If this car cant be purchased including the warranty for less than a similar cpo vehicle id just look at cpo

I actually bought a previously leased 08' 535i in March with ~55,000 miles on it and have had no problems...bought the extended warranty for $3,700 and had the confidence to cancel it last week after I've put ~15,000 miles (probably 80% highway miles) on it so far and had no problems besides an HPFP failure (which is a known issue anyway)

My philosophy is this, $4000 is a lot of money so if you have few grand in the bank just keep that and bet on the car NOT failing. The warranty company is betting on the car not failing and they wouldn't be in business if they weren't correct a fair amount of the time...think about it

The car is probably fine...although I didn't get an inspection done before purchase, I did call a BMW dealer and they agreed to do an inspection (essentially the same inspection as when they CPO a vehicle) for ~$200-250 if I remember correctly

Thanks for all the comments. It will help in my process. I went and took a closer look at this particular car. It really showed the wear and tear of a 60k car. I think this leasee just beat the heck out of it knowing he/she was just going to turn it it. I did love the HUD and will look for that in the future.

Hi shabading,

Good luck in finding the car you want. I went crazy during these past few months looking for the car I wanted, checking bmwusa cpo, autotrader, carmax . I finally went with the first car that I looked at. I wish it had manual but hey my e39 some major repair which out weighted the value. I hope you find what is going to put a smile on your face.

John
