On a similar note to this. I recently got into a fender bender with my car. Some guy didn't turn in a lane and went straight and my front passenger fender and front bumper rubbed against his car. His car and my car was scratched up along with a minor dent.

We called the police and did the insurance claim and all. I fixed it out of my pocket and didn't claim anything (deductable was more than the fix).

Now with that said, in the future, if I sell my car (I won't for a while with all my mods), will this so called accident mess up my carfax report and make potential buyers scared, just like this situation? I fixed the fender and bumper btw. (My car felt so ugly with that blemish).

Anyone with any ideas / opinions, please let me know. I just want to know for future reference.

I believe that it will since you went through insurance, but I am not positive.

Selling a car is like any other business deal out there. If you are straight forward and do not try to deceive anyone, the accident that you had should not really have an effect on the resale. The important thing is that you notify a potential buyer rather than have them find out on their own, then it looks as if you are trying to pull a fast one. If you had the accident repaired at a BMW dealer or at any reputable body shop and especially if you went through your insurance company the repairs are guaranteed for a long time. Here in Canada if we repair our cars at a shop authorized by the insurance company then the repairs are guaranteed for as long as you own the car.

With all this being said, it is not a crime to have an accident and there are some great body shops out there and many accidents can be repaired properly. In your case it would seem that it was only body damage and in my opinion if you are straight forward and keep copies of the repair bills for as long as you own the car, you will be able to demonstrate the exact nature of the damage and the repairs that were done. Most smart buyers will ask the seller if the car was ever in an accident, just tell the truth and produce the repair invoice and you should not have a problem.

Mike - I think once its been reported. Carfax should picked it up. You can spend the $ and pull a report to find out for sure. If its there, then I will follow the advise above of keeping all your records. This way you can prove to the buyer what exactly happened and what damage was and got fixed. Sorry to hear about your fender bender.

Thanks for the info guys. I wouldn't want to lie to the buyer anyway. It was just a dent / scratch.

Besides, i would sell this car over my dead body.. unless I get a new e60 that is... LOL.
