whatever i guess. i'm still not even sure what the factory ones actually do. they've been due for changing for a while, and i haven't noticed one damn difference in the cabin to be honest. i'm sure there is some advantage to changing them out, but to me it's probably insignificant enough to justify spending only $20 to fix.

Charcoal filled filters absorb bad odors in the air. So, the air you breath in the car (assuming the windows are all closed) will be filtered thru the charcoal and you won't smell any bad odors inside the cabin.
On the other hand, if most of your drive is with open windows, then you won't notice any difference.

I just changed my microfilter today and I reset the service indicator. I followed the step by step instructions and now the iDrive says 90,000 miles for the next replacement.
Is that correct?
