TMC should work on the Bus-NAV option (clearly shown in the E60 brochure as functioning with Bus-NAV)

I contacted ITIS Holdings (the TMC licence holders in the UK) and got an interesting response - see below:

Dear Mr. Whiteley

Thankyou for your enquiry.

ITIS is the UK service provider in the UK and we do indeed have a contract
with BMW to supply RDS-TMC. Whilst we have undertaken the integration
testing for the business navigation system, BMW will not launch TMC
functionality until later in 2004. We believe this will available via a disk
upgrade.

If you would be kind enough to pass on your full contact details I will
ensure that we keep you updated.

Yours faithfully

what it means is that any conjecture regarding TMC/BusNav set as inactive being due to BMW not paying the license fees...
which means that it is a software bug
perhaps as explained to me that it doesn't work wrt to ability to select re-route as opposed to auto-re-rerouting - which from the German website thread i posted elsewhere indicates is possible...

and it was not only the manual's that said it would work: several press releases from BMW (int'l UK) feature it.

me, i'm not holding my breath...

Yes, but I already told you a while back I have TMC working perfectly with the Pro Nav option, so it could never have been a licensing issue.

This is getting very interesting. WRT Whihr's post:

"ITIS is the UK service provider in the UK and we do indeed have a contract

....this ties in exactly with what the BMW service tech told me on Friday morning. I was sceptical because, as previously posted, I had the TMC system up & running when I visited Germany last February showing quite clearly where the delays where and how bad (one memorable one between Kufstein & Munich was 60km). But who knows, maybe a new DVD will activate it?

As far as dynamic re-routing goes, it appears in my nav menu as a check-box under "routing options". But, to be honest, I didn't try it out that time in Germany so I am only guessing that the two will work together when TMC rises from the ashes in the UK.

Will post again after the car's visit next Thursday.

Hey E60-530d-London - You made a good point here. After reading your post I realized something. The reason why TMC is not working on the Bus Nav system is most likely caused by the supplied BMW maps.

When taking delivery of my car my dealer told me that the Pro Nav uses a different DVD than the Bus Nav, my guess is that the Bus Nav uses a DVD without TMC activated because here in Belgium TMC is also only working with the Pro system.

Skidster - Does it also list for which countries it is active?

I just took the cover of my Pro DVD and it said something like: covers guidenance in the following countries + enables you to get TMC messages for the following countries. For the TMC part, it also contains the following countries: D (Germany), B (Belgium), GB (Great Britain). Can you please verify the same for the Bus DVD?
