[quote name='vern' date='Jun 9 2005, 10:03 AM'][quote name='uwsc11' date='Jun 8 2005, 09:45 PM']I just had the oil changed on my car. I did it with a little bit over 3K miles on the engine. Especially the break-in period is important to me. So I paid for the oil change. From now on, though, I think I will just go with the regular maintenance schedule. Meaning whenever the car says it is time for an oil change. They also did not re-set the service indicator.

On the down side. It cost me $126 bucks for the oil and filter change, which I thought was a little steep.?

$126 is a lot steep.I pay $79.95+tax for oil and filter change at JMK BMW in Springfield,N.J.

I paid $113 at Peter Pan, including 10% BMWCCA discount on parts. To those who don't live in CA, those prices sound outrageous, but the hourly labor rates here are a lot higher than most (all?) places...just like the real estate...

Stream, that makes me feel a little bit better. I don't know if "glad" is the right word here, but it sure makes me feel better that others in CA are being ripped-off equally.

Like I stated before. It was worth it for me, just after my break-in period, but from now on I am having BMW pay for my oil changes.

BTW, I had mine done at BMW in Moutain View

Yep, my folks lived down in Laguna Beach.? Outrageous prices for real estate, I don't know how the average person gets by out there.

I also get a kick out of watching the network news, when they talk about how gas prices had hit new highs, and show a price sign from a gas station, shocked at how high it is.? I look at the price and think. amn, I'd love to pay that little!

And that's exactly how all our European friends feel when they see any price from the US!

Vern, I am thinking about getting it. The only problem is my wife really wanted it on her 545i, but it wasn't available/dealer didn't have it in stock so we opted to not have it. She had it on her 98 Pontiac GTP. If I get it, I will probably lose my 550 to her 545.

Sounds crazy, but that is what I am thinking. Will probably get it though.

Thanks for the advice.

Regards, Michael

Does anyone do this themselves?? I always do it myself for my 528i, except when I could get it for free.? It's pretty easy and although I could afford to pay for it, I get satisfaction from doing it myself as well as other simple maintenance & repair.? Is a 545i oil & filter change also easy?? I haven't had a chance to get jacked up on my stands and poke around underneath yet.? I think read somewhere that changing the filter is messy. Comments?

GWF,

I have done it myself and here is the link to a previous thread on the subject. Pretty easy IMHO, but I have a lift.

I lived in Amsterdam 10 years ago and gas was the equivalent of $5.00 a gallon back then. Good thing I had a company car & gas credit card!

When I came back to the states on business, I'd bring an empty suit case and go to the Gap and load up on clothes for my kids. Everything is so much more expensive there, and the selection is nowhere near as extensive.

UWSC11-- Do you have a service advisor at Mt View BMW that you like? I'm picking my 545 up from them in about 3 weeks and I know a good service advisor can make a huge difference.

This was my very first service with them. I was helped by Sam. He was good. I had them fix something on my driver-side window and while doing that the technician put a dent and scratch in my speaker by the driver mirror. I called Sam right away, drove by today and they will replace the whole speaker/window frame assembly. It is all one part.

The one thing they didn't do was a SW upgrade. I did not ask for one, but I complained about my iDrive hanging at start-up. They only did a reset.
