Does anyone know what manufacturer BMW uses for exterior automotive paint at the Munich factory? Is it BASF, DuPont, PPG, Sikkens (by Akzo Nobel)? I need to match the factory paint. Thus far the prime variant of PPG and Sikkens did not doe the trick. Thanks for any help.

The cars are painted usually in electrostatic field, so the paint used is very different from the spray type one. The only things that you can match is maybe the supplier of the paint ( maybe they have also some spray type paints, and the color pigments are the same).

Thanks for chiming in!

I thought that only primers were applied in the electrostatic field and the paint and clear were simply sprayed on under clean-room environment. There is an article online that summarizes a tour through BMW factory. The author of this article claims that BMW uses waterborne paints. The only supplier of waterborne paints I know of is BASF with their Glasuri Waterborne Paint line.

Does anyone else know anything about this?

The factory paint I believe is Glasruit and the parent company of glasruit is BASF. When I had some repairs done I had done some extensive research to get the factory paint put on the car.

Thanks ukamath!

I plan to stop by a local auto paint supply place on Saturday to check out their BASF Glasurit products. This place also has color samples for every color code. Lets see what I find.
